Producing A Low Budget Digital Movie

Producing this project was a joyous return to my roots. My career started as an assistant director in low budget independent movies. Most of my recent career has been in episodic television where I met Michael Pressman when we were both producing the Emmy award winning David E. Kelley production of "Picket Fences". What made this movie different from my previous experiences was learning about the new technology; filming in four different mediums; and the miniscule, almost non-existant budget.

This was truly a labor of love for all involved… and it had to be since payments were deferred against pick up and profit participation. The lack of studio, network, airdate and release date pressures enabled us to be more in control of our process and to have more fun. It reminded me of why I got into this business – to have the experience of a collaborative creative process that was all about the work.

This film was possible financially due to low budget and experimental union agreements. In addition, Michael Pressman and I called in favors from everyone we knew, including vendors and crew. Location costs were kept to a minimum. For example, we filmed at Michael and Lisa's house for eight days for free! Every dollar was precious. Thanks to a well prepared director, amazing cast and a terrific crew (some of whom we got from a website!), we were able to pull this miracle off.
